Breakfast Blend update -

Anyone who’s been living with a feeding tube or tube-fed person long enough knows to always expect the unexpected. Have the back-up button readily available. Keep a stash of emergency food on hand. Always travel with extra syringes and tubing.

The same has been said about running a business. Expect the unexpected. But in this situation, even we didn’t expect this unexpected scenario. And ended up with(out) egg on our face.

The samples we created and shipped earlier this year were wildly popular. Having a readily available “more normal breakfast food” option and in a powdered, customizable format went over very well with the majority of our ‘taste’-testers – and we know that most of our customers want even more meal options. Since then, we’ve been working to get everything in place for a large-scale production run of these new meals, but one thing we couldn’t control was the outbreak of Avian Flu.

The Avian Flu has caused a severe shortage of egg products on the commercial level (and most will start to see a big spike in the price of eggs at your local grocer soon, if you haven’t already.) This has created a global shortage that has unfortunately made one key ingredient in our breakfast blend impossible to provide for at least the next 6-12 months.

and plan to swap out the eggs in this blend with turkey (so the new powdered meal will consist of turkey, sweet potatoes, avocado and apples….should be a good one for the oral eaters too!) It’s a relatively simple swap but will delay our production slightly. Plan is to deliver these meals for sale no later than August 31^st – hopefully sooner.

As soon as eggs are available at the commercial level, we do plan to launch a breakfast blend as well. Our apologies. We know many of you have been patiently waiting. Bird flu, who would have thought!!

We loved the breakfast blend, so bummed to hear this. But leave it to those helping people with special needs to pick up and keep right on going – looking forward to some turkey for my little – it will also give us one more thing to be thankful for when Thanksgiving rolls around!

We are new users of your package ‘RealFood’ and just love it. Looking for a breakfast meal, so will wait patiently. Haven’t heard about the dry products, and I’m interested in getting some of them to try for my daughter, Chelsea. How do I get a list of available item and how to order? Hi Lynne, We are still working on the dry blends (and a breakfast blend – it’s a top priority now that our new beef meal has launched.) All our available meals can be purchased here on the site.

I’m really interested in a dry blend, As I’m traveling and will need to keep my baggage weight down. I’ve been stuck on Jevity for years, but I just can’t seem to gain any weight. I tried to find info on insurance coverage for your product, but the link didn’t work on your site.

Has a breakfast blend been made available, not having eggs in the blend is not a problem for us the turkey, avocado, sweet potatoe and apple sounds like a goood option. We just started my grandson on your blends as we were looking for something more for him than just the ensure products as he was starting to have reactions from such a limited diet. He is doing great on the products as he gets two pouches a day plus two ensure a day, but he goes to,school and his morning feed is one I am concerned most with as the span of time from then until he comes home is such a long time. I had been doing ensure with yogurt and then at school they give him an ensure plus and 16 oz of water which I have them give about 4 0z. at a time through the day to help keep him from getting too hungry. So I checked with our supplier and she said there are breakfast blends but we would have to buy them out right that insurance would not cover them. She said to.check,the web site but I did not see them listed and after reading the blog here I did not see them in production on the update. I would like to see some type of breakfast blend available but until then I may start giving him the chicken in the morning to help him through the morning span. I feed him a at 5:45am and he gets home at 3pm, so that is a long time to go without substance, he is 17, CP, non verbal, and a quadriplegic; so he can not say” hey I am hungry, feed me, lol”. Thank you for this product I found out about it,at just the right time for him I think, he seems to love them and is doing very well with the change.

Hi Cynthia – thanks for your message. Does school not feed your grandson? Can you end along a couple of pouches of RFB each day? A lot of our customers do this and the schools are more than happy to feed them our meals. That seems like way too long for him to go without nutrition (or is he being fed formula at school perhaps?)

We are still working on a breakfast blend and others as well. We just launched our new beef meal and have a few more in the pipeline!

Julie Bombacino, the school does feed him a can of Ensure Plus at this time every day plus they fill in every couple hours with water to help keep him hydrated and so his tummy doesn’t get too empty. At this time his doctor feels theschool should only do the Ensure because we are just starting him out on the foods and because I need to train them on using the syringes & plungers instead of just the gravity feed he get his Ensure with. We do not use the feeding pump as he has enough devices on his chair we do not want more things in the way, plus he is active in PE and swimming and not being attached to a pump makes these activities more fun for him and his friend do not need to worry about accidentally getting caught up on tubing. He had to use a pump for a period of time after back surgery and was not happy about it, so better he is happy. However after realizing the chicken can work for breakfast I did start him on the chicken mixed with a regular Ensure for his morning feed and then the other half for his 3rd feeding he gets right after getting home from school. It does hold him very well. I do not eat out often and had totally forgot that chicken is served as a breakfast dish regularly. We will wait until a breakfast blend is developed and gladly try it out. I have been so happy with these food blends I wish I had known about them when my father had stomach cancer and eating had become such an issue he could hardly stand living on Ensure products, these would have helped so much to give him something more satisfying. He eventually lost his life to this cancer. I now love. Thatmthese are available and I will,spread the word for people struggling to keep foods down, these are much easier and complete to help build their straight during their battle. We have lost 5 family members to cancer and getting good nutrition in was the hardest battle for them all, thanks to Real Food Blends there is now a good option.
